Reports To: Glasgow Afghan United Board
Overall Job Purpose
The Project Manager will be responsible for the management and development of
the Glasgow Afghan United. She/He will Manage the activities and services run by
GAU. The Managing Director will also work with the Board of trustees and manages
Steering group and volunteers to plan activities. She/he will implement a broad plan
of action as identified by the GAU Management Board and receive support and
supervision of the Board.
Other duties include:
– Planning and Managing events programmes and activities, delivery and
facilitation of workshops and building on relationships with partners.
– Manages Promoting the project activities to a wider audience in order to
increase participation
– Managing Staff to carry out activities
– Managing the general administrative work, and publicity
– Representing the organisation at meetings as appropriate
– Recruiting and supporting staff and volunteers
– Carrying out other duties identified by the GAU to facilitate the running of the

Key Responsibilities
 Planning and managing events activities, delivery and facilitation of
workshops and building on relationships with partners
 To contribute to the empowerment, development and capacity building of
Glasgow Afghan United
 To lead on particular advocacy priorities agreed annually using appropriate
influencing strategies, projects and tools to achieve positive change;
 To lead staff in the Policy, Communications, Communities Team, Women
empowerment project, GAU School and across the organisation to keep
abreast of relevant legislation, policy practice and to support Glasgow
Afghan United response to the changes (For example, responding to
parliamentary bills and inquiries; and consultations from the Scottish
Government, Home Office and other bodies);
 To research, from all possible sources, necessary statistics and other
information as needed to support advocacy activities;

 To produce effective, user-friendly, comprehensive, accurate briefings and
information for appropriate audiences;
 To liaise with statutory, voluntary and community organisations and to
represent Glasgow Afghan United externally when appropriate;
 Promoting the project activities to a wider audience in order to increase
participation
 Managing staff, sessional workers and volunteers to carry out activities
 Managing the general administrative work
 Representing the organisation at board and external meetings as appropriate
 Recruiting and supporting Staff and volunteers
 Carrying out other duties identified by the GAU to facilitate the running of the
project
 Work with and advise appropriate external agencies to ensure the delivery of
services to service users in areas such as employment, health, welfare,
money management and education
 Report back to the management committee and funders
 Promote awareness of our community’s needs and rights through provision
of training, seminars, briefings, and electronic and written communications
and by participating in appropriate networks and forums
Other Duties
 Maintain the agreed Quality Standards and Team Standards in a consistent
manner and across all functions of the team.
 To participate with other staff in all aspects of the development of the work of
the organisation.
 To provide reports, as required.
 To participate in and contribute to organisational / team meetings as required
 To provide training and induction for other members of staff, as required.
 To undertake any other duties relevant to the post and the demands of the
organisation.
 Develop good working relationships with internal and external services and
organisations. To represent Glasgow Afghan United in a professional manner
at all times.
 Undertake training and development activities as required to develop skills
and abilities, which will enable the post-holder to fulfil the purpose of the role
and support the success of the organisation.
 Participate in and contribute to organisational/team meetings as required.
 Provide reports for management committee as required.
 Provide appropriate support to volunteers as required.
 Ensure that all health and safety requirements are met in the delivery of the
services.
 Undertake all work in accordance with Glasgow Afghan United’s policies and
procedures.

 Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with Glasgow Afghan

 Undertake any other appropriate duties as requested.
