The country’s most diverse football tournament returned to Glasgow, where competition was hotter than ever.
After a day of serious sporting action, Kingsway FC emerged as worthy winners of this year’s trophy.
They faced a difficult battle through the group stages to emerge victorious, facing teams from across Scotland and representing people of all backgrounds and communities.
Delivered by GAU, the event is a summer sporting highlight and is backed by Scottish football legends. This year’s tournament was launched at Hampden by former Scotland, Rangers and Kilmarnock goalkeeper Cammy Bell and ex-Celtic and Republic of Ireland goalie Pat Bonner.
The tournament is delivered with the support of partners including Glasgow Life and Wheatley Group. Goalie Bell is Wheatley’s development project officer and said: ““Football is a great way to bring communities together, to build friendships and communities, and I’m sure this tournament will help new Scots to integrate into Scottish life.”
Abdul Bostani, managing director of Glasgow Afghan United FC and organiser of the Refugee World Cup Scotland 2025, believes the tournament can have a positive impact on neighbourhoods.
He said: “The Refugee World Cup Scotland is, above all, a celebration of football and community. But it’s also a powerful reminder of our shared humanity.
“This tournament is an invitation to see refugees not as statistics, but as individuals. It’s about fostering empathy, understanding, and inclusion, values that have long defined Scotland and the UK as welcoming nations.”
So thank you to all of our partners, congratulations to all of our teams and players - and a special ‘well done’ to Glasgow Afghan United’s squad, who finished in second place.
We can’t wait for next year!
